Cannabidiol (CBD) Can Reduce Seizures and Help Patients with Epilepsy

Epilepsy specialists have been conducting a yearlong study using Cannabidiol (CBD) at the New York University Langone Medical Center. The results have apparently blown them away, since they have discovered that CBD can in fact reduce seizure frequency for people who are living with epilepsy. The best part is that it’s considered to be safe for both children and adults who have epilepsy, and is already being seen as the new miracle cure.

The actual results of the study had been disclosed in the early part of 2015, at the American Epilepsy Society’s Annual Meeting in Philadelphia, PA, but the findings have only recently been published in a peer-reviewed journal. CBD has been investigated and researched for the past few years, and has been found to have extremely positive effects on people who have epilepsy, which is a brain disorder that causes seizures.

It’s estimated that approximately 5.1 million adults and children have been diagnosed with epilepsy in the United States alone. 214 people, ranging in age from 1 through 30, had participated in the study and were given oral CBD treatment Epidiolex over a period of 1 year.

Extremely Positive Results for the CBD Industry

The latest results have been extremely positive for everyone in the CBD industry, since the study was actually an open-labeled investigation. This means that both the patients and their families knew that they were receiving CBD for treatment. The results in the study showed that there was an average reduction of about 36.5% in monthly motor seizures, and the average number of motor seizures decreased quite dramatically from 30 per month to around 15.8 a month.

The doctors and researchers also found that all of the patients responded extremely well to CBD and there were no ill-effects or complications to report, while the rate of seizures dropped significantly. However, doctors remain cautious and researchers said that there was further research that needed to be performed in the future, even though the results of the test were extremely positive.
